Sports Leadership Week 2015-16
During October half-term the Melton & Belvoir School Sport & Physical Activity Network put together a Sports Leadership Week. At the beginning of the year we asked all the secondary school/colleges in our area to ask their students if they would like to be part of the Leadership Academy. The Leadership Academy provides volunteering opportunities for young people aged between 14-19 years old, they are offered the opportunity to work together to facilitate different sporting events, undertaking different roles in school and in the community.
The students on to the academy are encouraged to log their community hours onto the Lead to Employability website so they can track what they are doing. Over the course of the week we put 6 different CPD courses on for the students to participate in. Monday the 19th we had First Steps into Coaching & a St Johns Ambulance First Aid Course, on Tuesdays the 20th we had a Badminton Young Leaders award, Wednesday the 21st we had The FA in to do a Junior Football Organizers course, Thursday we had a Dodgeball Leaders Award with Level 1 Coaching and finished with a Handball Leaders Awards on the Friday Afternoon. We have 72 Students currently on the Leadership Academy with 45 attending during the week. The next Sports Leadership Course week will take place during the February half-term.
