Let's Get Moving Melton Awards 2025

The Let's Get Moving Melton Awards returned for the third consecutive year on Friday 23rd January 2026. Celebrating excellence and participation in sport and physical activity, the 2025 awards aim to shine a light on individuals, teams and organisations who make a positive impact across the Melton Borough.
The awards offer the community the opportunity to recognise and celebrate sporting achievements, dedicated volunteers, groups championing physical activity and inspiring individuals that are leading more of an active lifestyle for their own health and wellbeing.
Congratulations to all our winners and runners up this year and to all those who joined us for the wonderful celebration event!

The winner is...Sherard Primary School
The school has built a vibrant, inclusive physical activity culture, offering a wide range of options beyond traditional PE, such as skateboarding, bike clinics and dodgeball, so every pupil can find something they enjoy. Activities take place both on site and in the community, with staff regularly supporting sessions outside school hours.
Pupils and staff have also led Junior parkrun takeovers, demonstrating leadership, teamwork and community engagement. Staff commitment is further shown through their involvement in weekend cross‑country events, highlighting the school's dedication to pupils' wellbeing and development.

The winner is...Yr 5/6 Brownlow Swimming Team
The Year 5/6 Swimming Team have had an incredible achievement during 2025. Not only did they dominate their local Melton Swimming gala, but they also emerged victorious in the entire Leicestershire and Rutland school swimming championships, securing an impressive 1st place.
It is worth noting that these achievements come on the heels of last year's impressive 2nd place and a 3rd place finish the year before, demonstrating our team's continuous improvement and dedication. The camaraderie and team spirit displayed by the children has been crucial to their success. They support and encourage each other both in and out of the pool, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture that inspires others and reflects the best of our school values.

The winner is...Birch Wood Key Stage 3 Indoor Athletics Team
The KS3 athletics team excelled in the local indoor sports hall disability athletics, to secure their place to represent Melton and Belvoir at the Team Leicestershire County Finals. Students attended extra lunch time practises leading up to the county event showing dedication and discipline. At the competition the team displayed outstanding competence and determination through their activity attempts, teamwork in their encouragement of each other and their competitors as well as good sportsmanship. Birch Wood have come runner ups previously at the county finals but did one better in 2025, they were finally able to secure the top spot for the Melton and Belvoir area, with several personal bests achieved.

The winner is...Asfordby Amateurs Ladies, Girls and Inclusive Football Club U13's Team
The team has been together for nearly eight years, building strong relationships and improving significantly. Despite being moved from 9‑a‑side to 11‑a‑side and starting the season with reduced numbers, often playing with only 8, 9 or 10 players, the team refused to give up. Their strong team spirit kept them going, and they continued to win games while gradually recruiting new players.
After a challenging start, they went on to win their league, becoming league champions and reaching the county cup quarterfinals. Their performance, effort and resilience far exceeded expectations.
Junior Club of the Year Award

The winner is...Trevonne Stage School
Trevonne Stage School is a long‑established, family‑centred performing arts school offering high‑quality dance, musical theatre, singing and performance training for children and young people. The school prides itself on being inclusive, welcoming everyone from beginners to advanced performers, and providing a safe, creative space where students build confidence, fitness, discipline and friendships.
The school has shown exceptional achievement and growth, with rising participation across classes, exams, shows and workshops. Pupils deliver high‑quality performances at local and regional events and regularly showcase their skills at community festivals, showcases and charity performances.
Parents consistently praise Trevonne for its nurturing environment, professional teaching and the positive impact on children's wellbeing and confidence. It remains a supportive, inspiring place where every child can shine.
Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award

The winner is...Jake Moore
Jake has shown a passion and natural talent for cue sports since picking up a cue at age three. By six, he was already competing in a men's monthly tournament and league in Melton, an impressive achievement for someone so young. He has continued to develop his skills through regular local practice and competition against older, more experienced players.
In 2025, at just eight years old, Jake finished 4th in Division 3 of the men's league, winning most of his matches and demonstrating exceptional confidence, skill and resilience. Around six months ago, he transitioned from pool to snooker, showing adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges. He now trains in Leicester under professional snooker player Ben Woollaston, reflecting his commitment to progressing in the sport. His highest break to date is 26, a remarkable milestone for his age, highlighting his rapid development and dedication.
Let's Get Moving Young Hero Award

The winner is...Bruno Battams
Bruno who attends Waltham Primary School and is in Year 4, decided in October 2025 to run a mile day (31miles or 50km) to raise money for 'Save Lives Choking' the prevention of choking. Bruno wanted to make sure his school and preschool are protected, so he is raised funds to provide three wall-mounted LifeVac kits, plus one travel kit that teachers can take on school trips and sporting fixtures.
With determination, enthusiasm, and a big heart, Bruno's efforts captured the imagination of classmates, teachers, and the local community and completed his challenge. Donations poured in as supporters cheered him on, helping him not only reach but surpass his fundraising goal of £340 to raise £800! The additional funds will help to deliver a bespoke first aid course to the pupils of the school and preschool.

The winner is...Melton Young Foxes Indoor Bowls Team
The Melton & District Indoor Bowls Club team has 14 members aged 13 to 70+. Their captain has over 20 years' experience at the club and multiple National Championship titles. Several players are former or current juniors who progressed through the club's Saturday Junior programme into league, county and national competitions.
In the 2025 Fantastic Fives season, the Young Foxes played six group matches between June and September, winning four and drawing two to finish top of their group. They beat Northampton 7–1 in the inter‑region final, then edged Gedling in the quarter‑final on shots (35–34) after a 4–4 draw.
Melton hosted the summer finals on 21 September, competing in a round‑robin against teams from Egham, Dorchester and White Oaks. With two wins and one draw, Melton Young Foxes were crowned Champions of the Fantastic Fives National Competition.
Group / Club of the Year Award

The winner is...Frisby Lakes Paddlesports
Frisby Lakes Paddlesports has offered kayak, canoe and pedalo sessions for only a few years but already has an excellent accredited open‑water lifeguard team providing safety, support and tuition. They run mixed sessions as well as private bookings for teams, companies or friends, plus Kids' Paddle Fun Sessions throughout the summer, all of which receive consistently great reviews. Visitors can also launch their own craft, and the lake is home to the Soaring Dragons Dragon Boat team, who hosted a national competition this summer.
They offer team‑building and raft‑building activities for all ages and abilities, along with special events such as sunrise and evening Summer Solstice paddles. Over the summer they delivered a huge number of sessions, enabling many local residents to enjoy this unique lakeside setting. Frisby Lakes provides a rare and affordable paddlesport experience in the area, combining education, fun and an exceptional service.
Melton Inclusive Sport & Physical Activity (MISPA) Person of the Year Award

The winner is...Claudia Bishop
Claudia Bishop has been attending the 'Without Limits class' at Trevonne Stage School for the last 6 years. This is an inclusive SEN dance and movement class for all students who have additional needs. Being in a wheelchair is not a barrier to participating, and Claudia gets so much from the classes socially & physically. She has her adapted tap shoes that she wears on her hands allowing her to make the same sounds as her peers.
Claudia gives 100% to all her lessons and just loves staying active. Claudia has performed on Melton Stage along with taking dance examinations. Claudia is a little Gem and love her efforts and contributions to this class.
Active Mums Club Award

The winner is...Helen Taylorson
Helen has been a Yoga Teacher in the area for several years working with all ages, but her pregnancy yoga is offering a valuable and unique service to local pregnant women to support their pregnancy and journey now and once the baby arrives both physically and for mental health.
Helen tailors the sessions to her clients & it is a specialist session working through the trimesters safely, supporting birth with breathwork and physical wellbeing. It is a difficult area to be consistent in as it is specialist, as the course time is limited & then Helen must recruit, set up new groups regularly as the customers move on every 9 months. Helen has recently this month taken a massive leap to open her own venue called Wellspring in Eastwell for other instructors and residents to take part in group exercise.
Sportsperson of the Year Award

The winner is...Dawn Jones
Dawn has been dedicated to CrossFit for over 10 years, training almost daily at CrossFit Panic in Melton Mowbray. At 57, she is one of the most experienced athletes in her gym and continues to inspire others with her commitment and achievements.
This year has been her most successful yet. Dawn represented Team GB at the European Championships in Amsterdam, placing 5th in her age category. She went on to win the UK Championship in Birmingham, taking 1st place at the Legends Classic in Ohio, and defend her title at the British Masters in Southampton. She also competes in team events, including a podium finish at Leeds Trinity War.
Her dedication, resilience, and passion for fitness have led to multiple national and international titles, making her an outstanding role model for the community.
Let's Get Moving for Health Award

The winner is...Penny Morris
In 2019, Penny was 6 months pregnant with her second child and found a lump in her left breast. What followed was a diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer, chemotherapy, 6 weeks premature delivery of her son, more chemotherapy a mastectomy and radiotherapy.
However, after recovering and returning to work, she found a lump in her neck, and was told the cancer had returned, spread and now incurable. Faced with grim statistics, she set a simple goal: to see her son start primary school and her daughter reach year 6.
Penny knew that she had to make a lifestyle change to give herself hope, so looked at her diet, sleep and exercise. She began walking, built up to 5km three times a week before work, and signed up to Purestretch & Kinsi Flow Classes and got involved with the Junior Park Run & Counch to 5k all whilst still undergoing Chemotherapy.
5 years on, with her Children in year 6 and year 2, there has been no progression of her cancer, and she remains determined to stay as active as possible with her family. A true inspiration!
Let's Get Moving Hero Award

The winner is...Jazz Knipe
Jazz has been coaching gymnastics in Melton for ten years. Over the past ten years, Jazz has coached and positively influenced many children. Through her delivery of gymnastics as part of the primary school curriculum in Melton and the Vale, she has introduced large numbers of children to the sport and helped them develop confidence, skills, and a lasting interest in physical activity.
Jazz has dedicated the past ten years to inspiring children across Melton Mowbray through gymnastics. By delivering gymnastics at Little Springers, she has introduced countless children to the sport, helping them build confidence, skills, and a love for being active. Her enthusiasm, patience, and commitment have made a lasting impact on young people in our community, making her a deserving nominee.
Let’s Get Moving Outstanding Contribution Award (in honour of Yvonne Makins)

The winner is...Erica Warrington
Erica has been a Level 2 Lawn Bowls coach for over 10 years, volunteering mainly with the Junior Section at Melton & District Indoor Bowls Club, and she has also coached young swimmers at Melton Swimming Club for a decade.
She took on running the Junior Section at the bowls club, managing all administration, competitions and junior galas. To ensure County juniors didn't miss out, she also volunteered to run Leicestershire's EBYDS events, leading to her being invited by the English Indoor Bowls Association to run both regional and national finals.
As Head Coach, Erica has supported players who have gone on to become England trialists and County and National champions, many progressing through the club's junior‑to‑adult pathway thanks to her guidance and development opportunities.
She has helped recruit new players through school outreach and introduced a successful Ladies coaching programme that grew from a small group to filling all eight rinks. Known for her organisation, drive, and determination, Erica consistently overcomes obstacles to support her players and has made a significant impact on bowlers of all ages.
Her achievements have now been recognised nationally with the English Indoor Bowls Association's Order of Merit award.
