‘Protect Where We Play’ campaign launched

The Sport and Recreation Alliance has launched a new campaign called Protect Where We Play to highlight the potential risks to playing fields, pitches and sports facilities posed by the Government's proposed planning reforms.

With the Government committed to building 1.5 million homes over this parliament, there is a real risk that our playing fields will be lost to development. And once they're gone, they're gone forever. The Sport and Recreation Alliance acknowledge the Government's ambitions to increase economic growth and deliver increased housing, they firmly believe this must not come at the cost of playing fields, pitches and sports facilities, which are vital community assets. Building more homes means more places are needed for local communities to be active.

New research has shown that playing fields and pitches deliver at least £2 billion in improved wellbeing every year and help keep almost four million people active.
