What is Sportivate?
Sportivate is a £56 million Lottery funded legacy project that aims to capture the excitement from London 2012 and provide attractive sporting opportunities for teenagers and young adults, aged 11 - 25, by providing them with six-to-eight weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice and be guided into regular participation within their community. The programme is part of the 'Play' strand of Sport England's London 2012 mass participation legacy programme 'Places People Play'.
Sportivate is inclusive and targets a variety of young people including those who have a disability and people from ethnic minority groups.
During the six-to-eight weeks those taking part can work towards an event or personal challenge and when the free or low-cost coaching has finished they will be supported to continue playing sport.
Who is the Target Market?
Sportivate targets 11-25 year olds who may not seek out sporting opportunities themselves or those who are doing sport for a very limited amount of time. These participants might be described as the 'semi-sporty'. The target group was selected for this campaign because research shows that the period in which people leave full time education and start to lead more independent lives is when many stop, and do not resume, regular sports participation.
Melton Borough Sportivate Projects
Young People across the Melton Borough have the opportunity to take part in various exciting sports sessions as part of the countywide Sportivate Programme.
Over the last 12 months Melton Borough Council have worked together with local schools, colleges, sports clubs and community organizations to deliver Sportivate projects which have included zumba, fishing, skateboarding and canoeing.
This lottery funded initiative is moving into its sixth year, and Sport England are currently accepting applications for projects for which will take place between April 2016 and April 2017.
This is an excellent opportunity for your club, school, college or community organization to obtain funding to deliver 6-8 weeks of funded sessions for 11-25 year old, which can help to engage, retain or improve the standard of sport within your organisation.
If you are interested and would like to know more about the Sportivate programme and how your organisation can get involved please contact Melton Sport & Health Alliance to discuss, plan and work with you to develop and complete the funding application for your desired Sportivate Project.
